Sat Navs have caused over £200 million worth of damage to drivers on roads in the UK through accidents caused by misleading directions, according to new research from car insurance company Confused.com.
The study found that 83 per cent of British drivers admit to being misled by them, with 68 per cent saying that if they follow the directions given they end up end up on longer journeys and clock up unnecessary miles. Further, 45 per cent of motorists have admitted to feeling angry and frustrated while driving, which has led to 31 per cent of British drivers spending between £100 - £500 on Sat Nav related car damage.
Confused.com is urging motorists to register their Sat Nav blackspots from around the UK on the Confused map so as to alert other drivers.
Gareth Kloet, head of car insurance at Confused.com, said: "As car insurance costs continue to rise, it’s important to keep your motoring costs as low as possible. Our research shows that the Sat Nav is increasingly a source of frustration and danger. We hope that our Sat Nav blackspot map will not only help reduce risk, but we also hope that frustrated drivers get back behind the wheel a little happier."
