Derbyshire Police To Offer Advice On Car Seat Usage
Mon, 05 Sep 2011

A new campaign to highlight the importance of choosing the right child car seat to parents has been launched by Derbyshire Police.

The force, supported by other organisations which make up the Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership, is working with motoring specialist Halfords to offer drivers in the county free child seat safety checks and money off a new seat.

At the start of the new school term, staff from the partnership will visit schools during peak school run hours to talk to parents about the laws surrounding seatbelts and child seat usage.

They will also hand out information sheets which include a Halfords voucher to receive a 10 per cent discount off the price of child car seats .

The campaign follows on from seatbelt advice issued by the Derbyshire Police during the school summer holiday, when drivers were urged to make sure children were correctly belted up.

"We are committed to reducing the number of people killed or injured in collisions on our county’s roads," Chief Inspector Steve Wilson, head of roads policing for the force, said.

"The start of a new school year is an ideal time for drivers to familiarise themselves with the laws surrounding seatbelt and car seat use."

"If their child is just starting school or nursery, parents may be looking to buy a new seat and by working in partnership with Halfords, we hope to offer them any advice or safety checks they may need."
