A new road safety campaign has been launched in North Yorkshire, aimed at keeping babies and children safe in cars .
The move by York and North Yorkshire road safety partnership 95 Alive comes in response to findings from a national survey which revealed that more than half of children across the UK are not being carried properly in vehicles .
Doctors, dentists and childrens centres across the region are being invited to join the scheme. Those that participate will be sent posters displaying the campaigns mascot, the Seatbelt Sheriff, in a bid to help spread the message about how using the right child seats and belts can save lives.
"It is crucial that the right car seats are used at the right time," said Coun Gareth Dadd, North Yorkshire County Councils executive member for highways.
"It can make the difference between life and death, and it can give peace of mind for parents and carers that their children are being carried as safely as possible."
