A couple whilst driving along the A58 motorway narrowly avoided death when a cycle rack fitted to the back of their Fiat Punto, slipped away and smashed through their rear window.
The Yorkshire Evening Post has reported that the couple, Andrew Thomas and his partner Elizabeth Cooper, both who are from Farnley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, had purchased the rack along with the two bikes from their local Halfords.
However, little under 10 minutes after having the cycle rack fitted, the couple were forced to pull onto the hard shoulder after the rack slipped smashing the rear window as well as ripping off the vehicles rear spoiler and causing both bikes to crash onto the road.
Initially Halfords offered the couple £100 as a goodwill gesture following the accident but have now stated that they will pay for the repairs of the car, replace the cycle rack and offer a discount on two new cycles to replace the two that ended up smashing into the A58.
