A leading road safety organisation has welcomed new official statistics which show a reduction in the number of people killed on UK roads.
A recent report by the Department for Transport (DfT) revealed that the amount of fatalities or serious injuries caused by road accidents fell by nine per cent in the year to June 2010, compared to the previous twelve months.
Adrian Walsh, Director of RoadSafe, said the DfT figures are "a good prediction for the future of road safety in the UK" and "show how improved vehicle safety is making a real difference".
But he added that it was important motorists continue to perfect their driving standards, and for the government to maintain its efforts in improving Britain's roads.
A recent survey conducted for Goodyear Dunlop revealed that drivers in Britain are the third safest in Europe.
The poll named German drivers as the safest in the European Union with 18 per cent of the votes, followed by motorists in Sweden with 9 per cent of votes. British motorists took third spot with 6 per cent of the 3,500 respondents voting for the country.
