A new road safety video that highlights the dangers of not wearing a seatbelt has become an online hit, racking up nearly 270,000 views on the net.
The Embrace Life film, produced by the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, has been watched by thousands of people across the globe on a number of websites, including the popular video-sharing site YouTube .
The short video, which was launched on 20 January, portrays a mother and child symbolically saving the life of their husband and father by holding him in the style of a seatbelt.
Neil Hopkins, communications manager for the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, said: "We are watching the viral spread of the Embrace Life campaign, monitoring approximately 110 websites worldwide which are carrying the message and video."
"The current figure of 269,198 comes from the YouTube official video, Embracethis.co.uk, a dutch blogger site and another social media source."
He added: "A large number of websites around the world have embedded the official YouTube video into their own page but, as YouTube themselves admit, views through other websites arent always recorded."
"The total views of Embrace Life could therefore be as many as 100,000 higher than the current total that we know about."
Sussex Safer Roads Partnership said it has received a lot of positive feedback from viewers through email and on the social networking site Facebook, with many also posting links to the film across various internet sites and forums.
