Young motorists across Northamptonshire are being offered the opportunity to improve their driving skills for free at an upcoming road safety event.
Forty drivers will be able to take part in the Northamptonshire Casualty Reduction Partnerships CarKraft Experience day at Silverstone Circuit, which is being held on Sunday, October 4.
Those who attend will receive an on-road driving assessment by police drivers, experience in a skid car and use of ABS brakes, and information on the dangers of speed and drink driving . The assessment is carried out in a Renault Twingo Renaultsport 133 .
Pc Steve Harris, the police forces casualty reduction liaison officer, said: "During 2008, six young drivers died in collisions on Northamptonshires roads and a further 39 were seriously injured ."
"The aim of the CarKraft Experience is to reduce road casualties by empowering young motorists to recognise the hazards of driving and how to avoid them."
The event is open to all 17 to 24-year-olds from across Northamptonshire who hold a full car driving licence . However, previous participants are unable to register.
Applications for CarKraft Experience must be sent in by Friday, September 11.
